Peter King the genius behind Sports Illustrated’s Monday Morning Quarterback column teamed with MMQB’s executive editor to create the All-time NFL Draft. Eight Miami Hurricanes football alums made the list.

MMQB had 12 “teams” select players in their all-time NFL draft. The Miami Hurricanes had eight alums selected in the all-time NFL draft. Five players were selected on the defensive side of the ball, two on offense and one on special teams.

The players selected in the all-time NFL Draft were further broken down as two defensive linemen, two linebackers, one offensive lineman, one tight end, one defensive back and one kick returner.

The draftees also selected coaches, kickers. punters and a wild card. Miami did not have anyone selected from those categories. There are plenty of debates to be had over which Miami players missed out on the list.

Are eight players from Miami enough? Does that acknowledge the five national championships the Hurricanes won? Amazingly five of the eight players from Miami that were “drafted” did not win national championships as Hurricanes.

Two came before the Schnellenberger-Erickson-Johnson era, one was at the tail end of Erickson’s tenure and the beginning of Butch Davis’ and two came after Miami’s last title in 2001.

The eight Miami Hurricanes players selected came on seven of the “draft” 12 teams.
