Known as quarterback U through the 1980s and 1990s, the University of Miami’s football program has been more of a tight end U in the last 20 years. Only two tight ends. Kellen Winslow Jr and Bubba Franks are in the UofM Hall of Fame.

Many other great tight ends have made their way through Miami. Jimmy Graham has become a pro bowl tight end, Clive Walford holds the Miami record for receptions and yards by a tight end and David Njoku was just selected as a first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns.

Greg Olsen was the only Miami tight end selected in the all-time NFL draft. In three seasons at Miami, Olsen finished with 87 receptions for 1215 yards and six touchdowns.

He might be on his way to a Hall of Fame Career. After being drafted by the Chicago Bears, Olsen has thrived as a member of the Carolina Panthers.

Olsen’s profile and that of former Cowboys General Manager Gil Brandt who drafted him are below.

Team Brandt

"“Gil Brandt-The pioneer of modern football scouting, Brandt built the Cowboys of the ’60s with a more scientific scouting approach than then existed. He has worked in the NFL for 58 years.”"

"TE Greg Olsen (2007-Present) “Strangely traded away from Chicago after the 2010 season, Olsen has been Cam Newton’s most reliable target through six seasons with Carolina. In 2016, he became the first tight end in NFL history to put together three consecutive 1,000-receiving-yard seasons.”"
