Quarterman earned first team Freshman All-American from ESPN and third team All-ACC in 2016. He was one of three Miami Hurricanes named to the Freshman All-American team. His mate at linebacker Michael Pinckney and wide receiver Ahmmon Richards were also selected.

The Miami defense overall has been receiving a lot of accolades heading into the 2017 season. Quarterman, the linebacking core and the front seven have been a big reason why. Miami returns its starting front seven defensively. Most of the backups are back as well.

The question mark on the defensive side of the ball will be the backfield. Safety Jacquan Johnson is the only starter returning in the defensive backfield.  With a year under their belts. Quarterman, Pinckney and Zach McCloud should only get better at linebacker.
