BLACKSBURG, VA – OCTOBER 20: Wide receiver Braxton Berrios /

The incoming depth and the experience the backups gained should help the Hurricanes offensive line this season. Searles discussed how the core of the offensive line is working together this season.

"“There are six guys who have played, I guess you could say,” Searels said. “KC [McDermott], Trevor [Darling], Nick Linder, Tyler Gauthier, Navaughn [Donaldson] – well Navaughn hasn’t played, but he is rolling with the first group – and Tyree St. Louis. I like what they’re doing. I think they know how to communicate and work together.”"

Thursday was the third day of training camp and the first day for the Miami Hurricanes in helmets and shoulder pads. Senior left guard Tyree St. Louis spoke about how the first day in pads went.

"“The first day with shoulder pads is always a fun day…Now we are finally allowed to hit each other. When you go against these guys in jerseys, they can move around and switch around, but with shoulder pads on we can do something now. It’s real football.”"

McDermott is impressed with how much improvement the offensive line has made during its year plus learning from Searles. With 20 starts under his belt and the high expectations for this season from individual offensive linemen, McDermott spoke about his unit’s growth.
