Michael Irvin

Michael Irvin played three seasons at the University of Miami. In each of those three seasons, the Hurricanes went into their bowl game with a chance to win the National Championship.

Irvin sat out as a freshman before becoming a starter in his redshirt freshman season in 1985. With future Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Vinnie Testaverde throwing him the ball Irvin set a Miami school record that would last until 2016. Irvin finished 1985 with 840 receiving yards on 46 receptions. He added nine touchdowns.

That record stood until Ahmmon Richards had 934 yards on 49 receptions with three touchdowns in 2016. Richards earned Freshmen All-American for his stellar season. Irvin left the U with the record in receiving yards and touchdowns. Irvin was named a Freshmen All-American in 1985 and was an All-American in 1986 and 1987.

Irvin still is among the all-time leaders in receiving for the Miami Hurricanes. He still holds the touchdown reception record and is third in receiving yards and fourth in receptions.

Irvin left for the NFL after his redshirt Junior season. He was the 11th overall pick in the 1988 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. Irvin finished his rookie season with 32 receptions for 654 yards and five touchdowns in 10 games. The Cowboys finished the season 1-15.
