Ed Reed S Eligible 2019

Ed Reed was the leader of the college football greatest team ever. The 2001 Miami Hurricanes sent 24 players to the NFL. Reed’s backup at safety in 2001 was Sean Taylor. Let that sink in for a minute.

Reed was a teammate of Wayne’s for two seasons. The Hurricanes got close in Wayne’s Senior year. They were third in the BCS finals standings before the bowl games. Reed and his teammates came back with a purpose in 2001.

They knew they couldn’t leave anything to chance and let the computer decide if they would get a chance to play in the National Championship game.

  • The Miami Hurricanes goal for the season was to go undefeated. The 2001 team was legendary in their accomplishments. A lot of teams have been mentioned as the best ever, but Reed and his teammates still hold up.

Reed was dominant his last two seasons in college. He had 17 interceptions for 298 yards in returns and four touchdowns. In National Championship victory over Nebraska in 2002 Rose Bowl Reed had Nine tackles, six of which were solo.

Reed’s most iconic play at Miami was a touchdown return after a Matt Walters interception that sealed a win at Boston College in the 2001 season. Reed has the Miami Hurricanes records for most interceptions, most Int returns for touchdowns, most career return yardage and most return yards in a season.

He is one of the most awarded players in Miami school history. Reed was a consensus All-American in 2000 and 2001, was the Big East Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2001, the National Defensive Player of the Year in 2001 and a multiple Freshmen All-American accolades.
