Wayne teamed with Marvin Harrison to form one of the most elite NFL receiving tandems ever. In 2004, Wayne had the first of seven consecutive and eight overall 1,000 yard receiving seasons.

Wayne also had four seasons over 100 receptions. He was a part of maybe the greatest prolonged passing attack in NFL history. Wayne, Harrison and Peyton Manning played together for nine seasons from Wayne’s rookie year to Manning’s last season with the Colts in 2009.

Wayne is 10th in NFL history in receptions and receiving yards and 23rd in touchdowns. He was never flashy or a diva like many other receivers, Wayne was the consummate professional. When he led the league in receiving yards in 2007, it was the only year he led the league in a stat category.

Many would say that Wayne benefitted from the system he played in and playing opposite Harrison. All Wayne did was produce every year. With the attention on Harris Manning went to Wayne often. He always performed.

Wayne’s enshrinement in Canton will be for excellence over a sustained period of time. He might be overlooked among the best ever, but Wayne did everything he needed to help his team win.
