"“Manny (Diaz) does a nice job defensively, but he’s a total gimmick guy. He wants to try to prove to people that he’s brilliant. He’s got some really nice pieces, but they’re too gimmicky for my taste.”"

Diaz’s system worked last season. Miami has a lot of talent, but Diaz had his defense playing at a much higher level than they did in 2015. Miami plays an aggressive attacking defense. Fans have been happy with the return to the style of defense the Miami teams played in the championship era of the eighties, early nineties and early 2000s.

"“They have good young pass rushers. That’s probably the strongest part of their team. The (Demetrius) Jackson kid is special. (Shaquille) Quarterman was really good for a freshman.”"

Demetrius Jackson was an interesting choice to single out from the Miami pass rushers. Jackson had 28 tackles six tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks last season. He was tied for 12th in tackles and eighth in tackles for loss and sacks.

Quarterman more than exceeded expectations in 2016. Like Richards, he was a Freshman All-American. Quarterman finished second on the team in tackles last year and leads the returnees.
