Freshmen Who Could Make an Impact

The Freshmen made a huge impact in Mark Richt’s first season. That should continue this season. While the majority will want to know how Perry plays, there are several other freshmen that could make an impact.

The receiving slots besides Richards are wide open. Returnees Braxton Berrios, Lawrence Cager and Dionte Mullins seem to have the advantage of having been in the system for at least a year.

Jeff Thomas, Mike Harley and DeeJay Dallas are all fast, shifty playmakers that are likely to get an opportunity to contribute. At the least, they will be a part of the return game.

The other names to watch offensively are linemen Navaughn Donaldson and Corey Gaynor. The departure of center Nick Linder will give Gaynor a chance to challenge Trevor Gauthier for the starting spot at center.

Donaldson has been projected to be a starter on the offensive line at either guard or tackle. He is currently listed as the starter at right tackle. His versatility will be important for the Hurricanes offensive line.

Carter and Bandy could also become impact players this season. With three weeks of training remaining until the opener and two more scrimmages, a lot is still yet to be learned about the Miami Hurricanes roster.

We will learn some with the scrimmage on Saturday. It can’t be overstated that it’s just one part of the process of preparing for the season.

The coaching staff will use the play on Saturday to teach the players going forward and continue to get them ready for the 2017 season.
