With the early signing day only three months away several high profile basketball recruits are naming the schools that are their finalists. Miami Basketball has been named by several high profile recruits.

Jim Larranaga has made a splash for Miami Basketball with his last two recruiting classes. Each of Miami’s last two classes has been regarded as the best in school history.

The 2016 and 2017 classes netted three two top 30 recruits and two McDonald’s All-Americans. Bruce Brown lived up to his status last season, while McDonald’s All-American Dewan Huell struggled.

Lonnie Walker was spectacular this summer according to Larranaga. He was sidelined last month with a torn meniscus. Walker is expected back in time for Miami Basketball’s first regular season game November 10 against Gardner-Webb.

Miami was a long shot to land Walker last year. He was expected to go to Arizona. The Reading, Pennsylvania resident also had his home state team Villanova on his list of finalists.

Miami is a finalist for Baltimore point guard Immanuel Quickley. Quickley is also considering Kansas, Maryland and Kentucky. The Wildcats are the heavy favorites to land Quickley. He is expected to make his decision in early October.

Jalen Carey is a 6’4 point guard from Montclair, NJ. Carey is the 55th ranked player in the class of 2018. He has narrowed his list to five schools. He announced official visits to Miami, Syracuse, Connecticut, and Kansas earlier this week per Rivals.Com.

Carey will take his visit to Miami on August 25. Carey averaged more than 18 points per game, three rebounds, two assists and shot 43 percent from three-point range on the Nike circuit this summer according to Rivals.

  • The four schools he announced visits to, plus Villanova and Rutgers all have medium interest per Rivals. Getting a high ranked player in the backcourt is going to be pivotal for Miami Basketball going into the 2018-19 season.

The Hurricanes could lose Brown and Walker to the NBA after this season. Ja’Quan Newton also graduates. Waiting behind those three are Freshman Chris Lykes and Sophomore D.J. Vasiljevic.

There are a few other recruits Miami is in the mix for. Devan Dotson is a 6’2 point guard from Charlotte. He is the 32nd ranked player and seventh ranked point guard in the country. Dotson is listed as a 93 percent chance to go to Kansas by 247Sports.

Miami is also one of the final five schools for Nasir Little per 247Sports. Little is a 6’6 small forward from Orlando Christian.

He is the 22nd ranked player in the nation according to the to 247Sports composite list of the nation’s best player among 247, ESPN, Scout and Rivals.Com’s list of the country’s best recruits. He is also the fifth best small forward in the country and the fifth best player in Florida.

The Hurricanes are one of the finalists with North Carolina, Duke, Arizona and Georgia Tech. North Carolina and Arizona are the leaders for Little per 247.

This is one of Larranaga’s most pivotal recruiting classes. Although Newton is the only Senior on the roster, the potential departures of Brown and Walker mean UM is going to need an infusion of talent for 2018-19.
