No matter how its performance is on the field, the Miami Hurricanes are still one of the most polarizing programs in college football. Asking is the U back is college football’s most overhyped question.

They have had another major scandal and three coaching changes since their last National Championship in 2001.  The hiring of Mark Richt has given the Miami Hurricanes the most stability they’ve had in almost 20 years. One of the most frequently asked questions heading into the 2017 season is “Is the U back?”.

It’s an ambiguous and unfair question. Determining what makes a program successful varies by so many factors. It depends on the person asking and analyzing the question. A program’s past success, the current success of a program, how they are set up for the future and where they rank in comparison to their peered programs are all factors.

Their peered programs are also ambiguous. It varies a lot depending on the location of the school and what conference they are in. Miami will always be compared first to Florida State and then Florida. After that would be other schools in the ACC. Right now that would be Clemson and Louisville with the recent success they have bad.
