Concerned with the Defense
One game. No need to overreact. But Bethune Cookman the FCS school from Daytona Beach, Florida averaged four yards a rush, completed 64 percent of their passes and held the advantage in time of possession.
The Wildcats were a combined 57 percent on third and fourth down conversions. That included a perfect 100% on fourth down. Saturday’s performance on defense did not warrant the preseason hype of ACC’s best.
The Miami Hurricanes only had one sack on the afternoon by Demetrius Jackson. That came on the first drive of the game.
Credit the Wildcat coaches for constructing a game plan of screens, quick passes and roll outs. That counter balanced the Miami Hurricanes aggression. Upcoming Miami opponents will take notice of the game plan.
Diaz did not unleash the hounds with any exotic blitz packages which have been a Miami calling card. The Miami Hurricanes defense ultimately improves moving forward and, hopefully, this game motivates the Hurricanes to not believe the hype.
