The anger coming from a sizeable portion of the Arkansas State fan base is beyond misguided. The fact that the U had been offered alternatives by Arkansas State to play the game was admirable. Cancelling the game seems to have been the right thing to do. It also is likely what has given rise o the trolls.
The alternate plans included moving the game to Friday night and getting accommodations for the Miami travelling party. The Arkansas State athletic department was supportive and put the game into perspective in a statement that was released via the athletic department’s official Twitter account.
Sadly, AStateNation which covers Arkansas State Athletics for Scout.Com can’t see the big picture. They published a blog post rant vilifying the Miami Hurricanes for supposedly avoiding Arkansas State by deciding to cancel the game.
They mention that Florida Atlantic and Florida International, the other two FBS schools in South Florida have decided to play their games. FIU moved up their game from Saturday to Friday night. They also moved the game from Miami to Birmingham, Alabama to face Alcorn state.
Florida Atlantic decided to play their game at Wisconsin on Saturday. The Badgers athletic department helped get accommodations for the Owls to stay longer in Madison.
Despite the decisions of FAU and FIU to play their games on the gridiron, both schools have had classes cancelled since Wednesday.
