At Duke September 29

The Miami Hurricanes return to Durham for the first time since the “Miracle in Durham” game two years ago. Jaquan Johnson will start at safety after taking part in the multi lateral return touchdown that gave Miami the improbable win.

Duke has a pair stars on offense that Manny Diaz will have to prepare for defensively. Sophomore Quarterback Daniel Jones will make a push for All-ACC. The league has been decimated at quarterback. A lot of the proven signal callers have moved on to the next level.

Jones had a sensational Freshman season. His numbers should improve tremendously as a Sophomore. Jones threw for 2836 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions last season. He also ran for additional 486 yards and another seven touchdowns.

His ability as a dual threat quarterback will make it difficult for Diaz to prepare for him. Add in a short work on the road and Jones could pose problems.

Jones’ leading receiver last season was T.J. Rahming. Like Jones, Rahming got votes for the All-ACC preseason team. He finished last season with 70 receptions for 742 yards and one touchdown.

The only knock on Rahming could be the low touchdown total. Jones spread his scoring strikes among nine receivers last season. That makes Jones more difficult to defend, particularly in the red zone.
