Miami Hurricanes Athletic Personnel Discuss Pre-Irma Decisions
In a series of interviews with Miami Hurricanes Personnel, ESPN writer Andrea Adelson profiled Hurricane Irma’s timeline and how it affected the Miami season.
Irma hit Miami on September 10. Before Irma hit the Miami Hurricanes administration and coaches had a lot of decisions to make. The biggest decision involved whether or not continue to play. All of the teams’ games were canceled in the days leading up to Irma and a few days after.
The highest profile cancellation was the Hurricanes scheduled trip to Arkansas State about September 9. It spawned a lot of speculation of the Hurricanes true motivation. Those criticizing the Miami Hurricanes came from both Arkansas media and national media.
The players went in a lot of different directions during Irma. Many went home to help their families. Some went to Orlando with Head Coach Mark Richt, other members of the Miami staff and teammates. Others went home to places as far away as California.
It took until Tuesday the 12th before all of the athletes and coaches were accounted for from the all the Miami Hurricanes teams.
