The Miami Hurricanes earned a 31-6 victory over Duke in the ACC Opener on Friday night. Head Coach Mark Richt talked about earning a victory on the road, the play of the defense. quarterback Malik Rosier and the running game.

Facing 4-0 Duke on the road to open ACC play presented a tough challenge for the Miami Hurricanes. They had a huge step up in competition with each game this season.

Duke came into the game with the nation’s second-ranked run defense. They had allowed only 61 points through the first four games. Even against Power Five opponents, they had allowed only 54 points in three games.

They also had a prolific offense. Duke was averaging 243 yards passing and 241 rushing per game. The Miami Hurricanes defense finally lived up to its high preseason billing. They held Duke to 349 total yards. That was more than 100 yards below their season average.

The Blue Devils finished with 183 yards on the ground and 166 through the air. The passing yards were a season low. Although the rush defense was solid, Miami Huricanes still needs to work on their run defense. In two of their three games, the Hurricanes run defense has allowed four yards per carry.
