The Miami offense struggled to run the ball effectively most of the night. The Blue Devils entered the game second nationally against the run. Travis Homer broke one for a 40-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. That inflated the Hurricanes overall numbers. Richt was not happy with the run blocking from his offensive line against Duke.

"We had one more running touchdown which is what you hope to have. That might have been the only play that we ran the ball and actually created a crease for the back. I thought most of the yards that [Mark] Walton had was just bouncing things outside and just using his ability to jump cut and his speed. There were very few times where I thought we just blocked and gave the guy a crease. That one to [Travis] Homer at the end was one like that.”"

Malik Rosier continued his hot play early in the game. Rosier completed his first nine passes of the game. That helped the Hurricanes jump out to an early 14-0 lead after scoring on their first two drives of the game. Richt discussed the continued impressive play from his quarterback.
