Last year Miami appeared to tie the game after a late touchdown pass from Brad Kaaya to Stacy Coley. Florida State blocked Michael Badgley’s extra point to preserve a one-point Florida State lead and earn them a 20-19 in a game dubbed the block at the rock.

"What was different this year as your team made those plays? “I’ve only been here two years. I think last year we were still feeling our way around a little bit, maybe as a team, as a coaching staff. This year at least we have a lot of trust and faith in each other. Even when things aren’t going well – of any day things could have gotten sideways on the sideline it was today. But it never did. It’s a tribute to Manny Diaz and his leadership on the defense and all those coaches and the players themselves. They were very encouraging to the offense; then when the offense took the lead and the defense gave up a score it was vice-versa. I think we do really care about each other. I think we are a very strong team as far as unity. And we just kept saying ‘we are going to win this game someway somehow.’ That’s all we said at halftime and it came true.”"
