After saying earlier in the week that they are not a dominant team, Mark Richt’s Miami Hurricanes survived another close game. Miami needed a fourth down stop with 1:31 remaining to earn a 27-19 victory over Syracuse.

The seventh/eighth ranked Miami Hurricanes had to survive late for the third straight game. UM has now won their last three games by a combined 13 points. They have become the Cardiac Canes in 2017.

Unlike early victories this season over Toledo, Florida State and Georgia Tech, the Hurricanes had a halftime lead and had to hold on late for the victory. The Hurricanes stretched a 13-3 halftime lead to 20-6 in the third quarter. Syracuse eventually closed within 20-19 with 5:23 remaining in the game.

Travis Homer continues to shine in relief of Mark Walton who is out for the season. Homer had 20 carries for 99 yards and added four receptions for another 27 yards. His 33-yard touchdown run with 2:48 remaining in the fourth quarter extended the Miami Hurricanes lead to 27-19.

Richt spoke about a variety of elements that led to the Miami Hurricanes win on Saturday. He was asked about the play of Homer, wide receiver and tight end Chris Herndon, the resiliency of his team continuing to find a way to win, various strategy and his team’s growth.
