Notre Dame is Catholic, not choir boys
Catholic versus Convicts was the subject of an ESPN 30 for 30. The infamous game that was the subject of that was 29 years ago. While Notre Dame is a Catholic school their players are far from choir boys.
It could almost be argued in the 29 years since the game that signaled a 20 year hibernation in the Notre Dame-Miami rivalry the teams have switched personas. Current Miami Hurricanes Head Coach Mark Richt is a very different Head Coach than Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson were in the second half of the 1980s and the first half of the 1990s.
Richt has instilled a higher level of discipline and no-nonsense than past Miami Hurricanes Head Coaches. More than a dozen players have been dismissed or left school in the nearly two years since Richt was hired. The majority of which were because of disciplinary or potential eligibility issues.
Under current Head Coach Brian Kelly, the Fighting Irish have had several problems they didn’t have under Lou Holtz. At least two resulted in the death of students that were not players.
