The Miami Hurricanes offense has overcome adversity this season. Head Coach Mark Richt and Offensive Coordinator Thomas Brown have had to replace quarterback Brad Kaaya, lost running back Mark Walton after the Florida State game and have had to deal with a less than 100 percent Ahmmon Richards.
Not many teams can lose their three-year starting quarterback, lose the leading rusher from the season before to a season-ending injury and have their leading receiver have to play through injuries the entire season and improve. Mark Richt and Thomas Brown have managed for their offense to do that.
Somehow when the College Football Rankings came out on Tuesday Clemson was given credit in their loss to Syracuse because starting quarterback Kelly Bryant was out for the second half with an injury.
No credit has been given to the Miami Hurricanes for overcoming the loss of Walton after four games and for having to overcome Richards being limited by injuries.
At the time of his injury, Walton had 428 yards and three touchdowns and seven receptions for 91 yards. He was sidelined for the season after having ankle surgery.
Walton also missed time against Toledo with the injury. At the time of the injury, Walton was on pace to eclipse last season’s total of 1,117 yards rushing despite the Hurricanes playing one less game this season.
Richards has not been nearly the player he was last season when he broke Michael Irvin’s Freshman receiving record. Richards suffered a pulled hamstring during training camp. The Sophomore wide receiver has missed two games this season.
