Mark Richt and OC Thomas Brown Deserve Credit for Offensive Success
Richards has 17 receptions for 341 yards and one touchdown this season. He had 49 receptions for 934 yards and three touchdowns a season ago.
In the absence of Kaaya, Walton and Richards, Malik Rosier, Travis Homer and Braxton Berrios have all stepped up. Mark Richt and Thomas Brown knew they had to replace Kaaya going into the season. He decided to forego his final season on eligibility to enter the NFL Draft.
Rosier won a four-way battle in training camp to earn the starting quarterback job. He had been the Miami Hurricanes backup quarterback the previous two seasons. That included a win in the famous eight lateral game at Duke in 2015.
Thomas Brown and Mark Richt have done a great job adapting the offense to Rosier’s talents. Richt mentioned during the offense season he wanted to run more run-pass options this season and needed a quarterback who would take care of the ball.
Rosier has been adept at both. Ther redshirt Junior has thrown for 2,401 yards, 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also has 339 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Rosier ever added a 17-yard reception against Virginia Tech.
Homer has had maybe the toughest job on the offense. After backing up Walton for the first four games he has had to carry the load as the primary running back over the last five games.
He had 25 carries for 211 yards and two touchdowns and five receptions for 71 yards in the opening four games of the season. In the last five games, Homer has 546 yards, three touchdowns and is averaging 6.2 yards per carry. He has added 12 receptions for 146 yards and a touchdown.
