The State of Miami pipeline dried up under Coker, Shannon and Golden. Richt and his staff are starting to reassert themselves in South Florida. Miami has 14 of the top 100 players in the state of Florida verbally committed for 2018.

Miami had contacted Richt’s agent shortly after letting Golden go. His agent relayed to UM Athletic Director Blake James that Richt was happy in Athens and loyal to Georgia. Ultimately Georgia did not reciprocate the loyalty.

Golden was an important, if embattled part of Miami history. He led the Hurricanes through a difficult time. Miami went on a self-imposed probation because of the Nevin Shapiro Ponzi scheme scandal.

Many of Golden’s players have been impactful players the last two seasons. The likely MVPs of the offense and defense, quarterback Malik Rosier and safety Jaquan Johnson were recruited by Golden.

Miami spent the month after being rebuffed by Richt looking for other candidates. James found out about Richt’s dismissal when his son saw a notification on James’ cell phone while in church. James told ESPN.

"“At that point, Mass couldn’t end fast enough for me…I made the call as I was leaving church on that day.”"

It only took 24 hours after James and Associate Athletic Director Jenn Strawley met with Richt for him to accept the job. The rest, as they say, is history.
