The Miami Hurricanes offense will get its toughest matchup of the season by far when they play Clemson in the ACC Championship game on Saturday night on ABC.
Clemson ranks second in the ACC in scoring defense and first in total defense and against the pass and the run. The Miami Hurricanes are going to need a balanced game offensively if they are going to win their first ACC Championship.
Inconsistency on offense caught up with the Miami Hurricanes in the loss to Pittsburgh last week. Quarterback Malik Rosier had his fourth game of the season completing under 50 percent of his passes and the Miami running game was under 100 yards for the third time this season. To knock off the Tigers Miami needs to significantly improve those numbers.
The inconsistencies from the Miami Hurricanes offense this season is going to make it difficult to sustain drives against the Clemson defense. Rosier and the Hurricanes have been a big play offense this season. They are going to have to hit on at least one or two against Clemson.
Otherwise, they might need a big play on special teams. Miami has not had a return touchdown on special teams this season. Getting the big plays on the Tigers is not going to be any easier. The Tigers are tied for eighth in the country having allowed just 74 passing plays of ten yards or more.
Of passing plays 10 yards or more up to 40 plus yards the Hurricanes are consistently in the top 30 teams in the nation. A player to watch could be Miami Hurricanes Freshman Jeff Thomas against Clemson cornerbacks Ryan Carter and Trayvon Mullen.
