Thomas is tied for 17th in the country of 70 yards or more and seventh in plays that are 70 plus yards. He’s a dangerous player that Clemson is going to have to account for. With Ahmmon Richards out, Rosier should have a few shots to connect with Thomas deep.

Rosier should be able to take some shots downfield without a huge concern for turnovers. As great as the Tigers defense has been their season, they are in the middle of the ACC in interceptions. The Tigers have just 13 in 12 games.

The ground game and expectation of breaking off a big run is more concerning. Miami is 63rd nationally with 60 plays of ten plus yards on the ground. Conversely, Clemson is 11th nationally with just 40 plays of ten plus yards on the ground.

The Tigers run defense was first in the ACC this season by every measure. They gave up the least yards rushing, the least yards per carry, the fewest yards per game and their five touchdowns allowed was also the lowest amount.

Miami is unlikely to be able to break a big run against Clemson’s defense. They need the run to be effective and give the passing game a chance to thrive. If that happens, it will give Mark Richt a chance to be creative in his play calling. It should open the game up for some play action passes.
