LSU has been the leader throughout Surtain’s recruitment process, but a recent report in the Miami Herald and Rivals.Com has the Miami Hurricanes gaining. They are coached by former Dolphins cornerback and Surtain’s father Patrick Surtain Sr.

Florida is not listed in the running for Surtain Jr per Rivals, but Florida State still is in spite of losing Head Coach Jimbo Fisher to Texas A&M. The Hurricanes appear to be the most likely team to land Surtain if he doesn’t wind up in Baton Rouge.

Rivals.Com said about the Hurricanes gaining ground on Ed Orgeron and the Tigers.

"Miami has made a strong move with Surtain in recent days, but the Hurricanes and everyone else are still chasing the Tigers…Surtain will not announce a commitment until Signing Day in February, so his upcoming official visits will likely mean everything."

Clemson, Alabama and Ohio State are the other leaders for Surtain. Does he want to just be another number at a school that’s had a run of recent success or does Surtain want to become an icon with a fan base desperate for a return to greatness.
