Were Miami Hurricanes disrespected in final college football polls?

Miami’s one blowout loss was to Clemson by 35 in the ACC Championship game. That’s the same Clemson team that was the top seed in the College Football Playoff. Although Clemson lost to Syracuse who lost to LSU.

It’s generally hard to gauge which teams are better than others. The computers go strictly by the numbers that are fed into them by a pre-determined formula. There is no eye test.

The human voters all have biases and can’t possibly see every team play every game. Even when the College Football Playoff committee gets together, they will have a divided focus watching the game.

The system will always be imperfect. You could make an argument for Auburn being ahead of the Hurricanes despite four losses. They defeated Alabama and Georgia who had to go to overtime to decide the National Championship Game.

Notre Dame and the schools mentioned above who finished ahead of Miami is questionable. The Hurricanes make their statement against the Fighting Irish on the field. Thirteenth is about right for Miami. The teams should be judged on the whole season and head to head, not just how they finish in their Bowl game.
