Sports Illustrated focused less on what the future holds and discussed what this season meant for Miami football. A common theme among College Football experts has been that the Hurricanes were a year ahead of schedule in 2017.

Bringing in a top 10 recruiting class will help Miami’s depth. The losses of Mark Walton, Richards and Chris Herndon IV this season were tough to overcome. It severely limited Miami’s depth and cost them their top three players makers entering the 2017 season.

Offensively Miami should be better with the returning players mixing with talented skill position players in the Class of 2018. The 2017 Class was credited with having the best group of linemen in Miami history.

Richt has said the lack of depth hurt them at the end of this season. With another year in the Richt system, the Hurricanes are only a year or two away from establishing themselves as an elite program on a yearly basis.

"9. MIAMI The Hurricanes came out of nowhere this season to captivate the general college football populace—but it was arguably a year ahead of schedule for the breakout promised by Mark Richt’s arrival, and they return tons of talent (plus the turnover chain) in 2018."
