Coming off a heartbreaking home loss to Duke on Monday night the Miami Hurricanes travel to Raleigh to face the North Carolina State Wolfpack on Sunday afternoon.

The loss to Duke dropped the Miami Hurricanes to 13-4 overall and 2-3 in the ACC. They are likely to fallout of the top 25 when the new rankings come out next week. The Wolfpack enters the game 13-6 and 3-3 in the ACC.

North Carolina State has seen a bit of a resurgence under first-year Head Coach Kevin Keatts. They have wins this season over Arizona, Duke and Clemson. They also have losses to Northern Iowa and North Carolina-Greensboro.

Miami has been able to get some rest and work on their game after six weeks off. North Carolina State enters the game against Miami after a 72-63 victory over Wake Forest on Thursday night. The Wolfpack hosts Miami having won three of their last four games.

For the second straight game, Miami’s elite defense will face one of the nation’s best offenses. The Hurricanes held Duke nine below their season average in an 83-75 loss on Monday night. The Blue Devils lead the nation in scoring.

North Carolina State in 45th in the country in scoring. They average 80.8 points per game. That’s about three points per game better than last year. They have thrived offensively despite losing star point guard Dennis Smith Jr. from last year’s team.

Four Wolfpack players average in double figures and nine average at least five points per game. Torin Dorn is second on NC State with 13.2 points per game and leads them with seven rebounds per game. Omer Yurtseven is just behind Dorn at 12.8 PPG and 6.8 RPG. Allerik Freeman leads the Wolfpack in scoring at 13.8 PPG.

Miami is going to have to watch their turnovers. The Wolfpack is second in the ACC in both turnover margin and steals. They average nearly four turnovers less than their opponents per game. NC State leads the ACC forcing 15.9 turnovers per game.

Miami has lived with their defense this season. The Hurricanes rank fifth in the ACC forcing 13.9 turnovers per game. Only Virginia’s defensive metrics have been better in the conference this season.

Miami is second in the ACC in scoring defense and three-point field goal percentage defense and third in field goal percentage defense. The game will likely come down to Miami’s defense versus NC State’s offense.

The Miami Hurricanes have been a tough road team this season. UM is 4-2 in true road games. They dropped their last two, however. They began ACC play with a win at Pittsburgh. They lost their second conference game at Georgia Tech and followed that up with a loss at Georgia Tech. Miami also lost last Saturday at Clemson.

Next game: Miami returns to the Watsco Center on Wednesday. The Hurricanes will continue an 11 game stretch of alternating home and road games. The Cardinals are 14-4 and 4-1, second in the ACC. The game will tipoff at 8 pm ET on ESPN2.
