Late rising defensive tackle Jordan Miller has committed to the Miami Hurricanes. Miller who was once a Georgia Southern commit had been recruited by Tennessee, Georgia Tech and Virginia.

Miller committed to the Miami Hurricanes on the same night Mark Richt and four of his assistant coaches made a visit to Miller’s home according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The Journal-Constitution also reported the Miller will take his visit to Miami this weekend.

Miller is the second defensive tackle to commit to Miami in the Storm ’18 class. Four-Star Nesta Silvera is an oral commitment who has chosen to wait until signing day next week to sign his letter of intent. Miami is still trying to sign one more tackle to the class. The most likely at this point seems to be Jamarcus Chatman.

Miller had only taken a visit to Charlottesville at this point. He was scheduling visits to Atlanta and Knoxville before the Hurricanes became aggressive in their pursuit of Miller. Miami was desperate for another defensive tackle after losing Juniors Kendrick Norton and R.J. McIntosh to the NFL Draft a year early.

Miller is one of the fastest rising players in the Class of 2018. He has been upgraded to a three-star player after having previously been listed as a two-star player. Miller is now the 75th best defensive tackle in the Class of 2018 and the 178th best player in Florida.

With Miller continuing to grow he could be a candidate to redshirt next season. That’s unless Richt, Defensive Coordinator Manny Diaz and Defensive Line Coach Craig Kuligowski decided they need Miller as part of the rotation in 2018.

Richt, Diaz and Kuligowski, plus special teams coordinator Todd Hartley and defensive quality control analyst Jonathan Patke were all part of the in-home visit with Miller in his Jacksonville home on Monday night to get him locked up as part of the Storm ’18 class.

Miami fit the criteria of what Miller was hoping to achieve for his college commitment.

"“The whole time I was like praying that I could go to a school in the state and when I got that offer it was just like, Whoa…A dream come true.”"

If Miller does not redshirt he will likely compete for playing time behind returnees Jon Ford and Pat Bethel and Gerald Willis who returns after taking 2018 off. He will have beat out Silvera as well to earn playing time.

Richt, Kuligowski and Diaz continue to build the depth for Miami’s defense. The loss of three defensive ends makes this an important offseason for the Miami Hurricanes defensive line. The coaching staff will have to work with many new and inexperienced lineman to get ready for the 2018 season.
