McCloud’s numbers were not as impressive as Pinckney’s or Quarterman’s. He will still go down as a third of one of the most legendary’s linebacker cores in Miami Hurricanes history whenever they break up. McCloud had 37 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss in 2016 and 48, 4.5 and two sacks in 2017.
Miami only added linebacker/defensive end hybrid Patrick Joyner as part of the Storm ’18 Class. The Hurricanes also signed defensive end Gregory Rosseau who some speculate might move to outside linebacker.
Miami also brings back rising Sophomores DeAndre Wilder and Bradley Jennings and Redshirt Freshman Waynmon Steed for 2018. Patke will have a good group of players to work with.
Being elevated to a full-time assistant coach will also give him an opportunity to recruit the future of the linebacking core at Miami. Diaz and Richt have done an excellent job with the first three recruiting classes at Miami. They have gotten away from the read and react defenses under former Head Coach Al Golden and Defensive Coordinator Mark D’Onofrio.
