Kuligowski wasn’t concerned about having to rebuild the defensive line.

"“I think we’ll be good… My expectation is always that we’ll be the top defensive line in the ACC and in the country. Our expectation is not going to drop… We think the future is bright with a lot of these kids we signed last class. Obviously, we all know (junior-to-be) Joe Jackson is a fantastic player. We all know (redshirt senior) Gee (Gerald) Willis is a fantastic player — that doesn’t have to be proven, it’s already been seen. We like the kids we have coming back and we’ve added, and some of the guys in the middle we’ll have moving forward.”"

The talent pool up front defensively is not completely bare. Whoever wins up succeeding Kuligowski is going to have to help secure talent upfront. The Hurricanes will definitely lose Demetrius Jackson and Willis after the 2018 season. Joe Jackson could be a candidate to leave for the NFL early.

The Hurricanes did not sign most of the high priority recruits they went after on the defensive line. That included losing a pair of defensive tackles to Florida State.

Kuligowski was an incredible coach as a teacher working with his players on technique. His biggest criticism was that he was not a great recruiter. If he lands with Alabama as expected, he might not have to be.
