The Miami Hurricanes went scoreless after scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning in a 7-3 loss in the opening game of a three-game series with Florida.

The three-run bottom of the first inning staked the Miami Hurricanes to a three-run lead after Florida failed to score in the top of the first. Its broke a 15 inning scoreless streak. Florida shut Miami out for the remainder of the game. The Hurricanes have now failed to score in 23 of the last 24 innings.

The Hurricanes got on the board in the first two batters. Left fielder Michael Burns led off for the Hurricanes with a double. Michael Perez followed with a two-run home run to left field. Miami tacked on one more run with a two-out Michael Amditis single to drive in Danny Reyes.

With ace Jeb Bargfeldt on the mound, Miami seemed to be in control. Facing the top-ranked Florida Gators holding the lead would be a challenge though. Florida’s eighth hitter Nick Horvath single-handedly brought the Gators back.

The Florida center fielder hit a two-run home run in the second inning to cut the Gators deficit to a run in the fourth inning. He followed that up with a two-run double in the fourth to put Florida ahead to stay.
