The Miami Hurricanes answered with single runs in the third and fourth to tie the game. A Romy Gonzalez single in the third plated second baseman Willy Escala to give Miami its first run of the game. An inning later Michael Burns got an RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score centerfielder Tony Jenkins.

The score remained that way until the top of the sixth. Florida got the lead back when a Reese double down the rightfield line scored first baseman Keenan Bell. Reese gave the Gators a two-run lead when he scored on a passed ball. Reese added his third RBI of the night to close out the scoring in the ninth.

Miami has now lost six straight games to the Gators. It dates back to the last game of their series in 2016. Florida has owned Miami over the last few years. Dating back to the 2014 season, the Gators have won 12 of the last 14 meetings between the intrastate rivals.

Miami tries to avoid being swept for the second straight season on Sunday. The teams will play game three on Sunday afternoon at Mark Light Field at noon. Evan McKendry  (0-1, 10.80 ERA) will get the start for Miami against Florida Sophomore Tyler Dyson (1-0. 150 ERA).
