Several Miami Hurricanes players switched positions in 2017. In most cases, it was done out of need. In spite of that Head Coach Mark Richt expects those players to stay there.

Among the Miami Hurricanes to change positions in 2017 were Freshman DeeJay Dallas who moved from wide receiver to running back. Freshman Navaughn Donaldson who came to Miami as a tackle last year and Scott Patchan who moved from defensive line to tight end.

In all three cases, the players moved because of need. Dallas moved to running back after Miami lost starter Mark Walton for the season, Donaldson was moved to guard to start the five best linemen and Patchan was moved to tight end because of a lack of depth at the position in 2017.

Dallas had to learn a completely new position on the fly. He finished the season with 217 yards rushing, a 5.3 yards per carry average and three touchdowns. He added another 92 yards receiving.

Asked about what the plans are for Dallas in 2018 Richt said:

"“He’s putting on pounds, weight room stuff. He might be in the 215 range and he was cutting weight to try to get in the 190 range to be a receiver. He’s probably in the 205-210 range.”"
