Miami Hurricanes Baseball goes 2-2 this week vs Maine and FAU

The Hurricanes began the weekend series with Maine with a 6-1 loss on Friday night. After Jeb Bargfeldt had another outstanding start, the Miami bullpen gave up five of the six Black Bears runs in the eighth and ninth innings. Bargfeldt pitched 7.1 innings, giving up six hits, one run with a walk and three strikeouts.

Closer Andrew Cabezas gave up three earned runs on two hits and two walks without recording an out in the eighth inning. Daniel Federman gave up two unearned runs. Cabezas took the loss. Romy Gonzalez hit his first home run of the season for Miami’s only run.

The Hurricanes and Black Bears had a wild 15 inning game on Saturday night. Miami took a two-run lead into the ninth inning. Maine took the lead in the top of 14, the Hurricanes matched that in the bottom of 14th.

The Black Bears again took the lead with a run in the bottom of the 15th. A Freddy Zamora double tied it the bottom of the 15th and Alex Toral single drove him in with the winning run. Daniel Epstein picked up the win in relief.

Miami won the final game of the series on Sunday 7-1.  A week after having being named the ACC Pitcher of the Week, Evan McKendry had another strong outing against the Black Bears. He pitched six innings allowing five hits and one run with three walks and ten strikeouts.

Catcher Issac Quinones was the hitting star for the Hurricanes. He went one for two with four RBIs and a run scored.
