Miami Hurricanes ACC Tournament prospects continually disrespected
Clemson, Ohio State, West Virginia and Florida are currently the fifth seeds per the Nitty Gritty. Gonzaga, the Tigers, Buckeyes and Kentucky are the consensus five seeds in the Bracket Matrix. The Gators, Houston and TCU are ahead of Miami in the Matrix.

While many will point to Ja’Quan Newton’s nearly halfcourt shot to defeat the Tar Heels as a prayer to defeat the Tar Heels, Miami had a 16 point lead in the second half. They had the game in their control. The Hurricanes led by 16 less than four minutes into the second half nine days ago.
After falling behind 18-10, Miami outscored UNC 49-25 over the next 16:05 spanning both halves. North Carolina then staged their own rally tying the game on a Joel Berry three with four seconds remaining. The Tar Heels outscored Miami 45-29 in 12:11 to even the game. Newton saved the day with his dramatic game-winner.
The Hurricanes offense was on fire against UNC, but they will have to improve their defense in the ACC Quarterfinals. Miami shot 54.2 percent from the floor and made 11 of their 22 three-point attempts. North Carolina shot 54.4 percent from the floor and made 13 of 27 from three.
Miami also had its best game from the free throw line against the Tar Heels. Miami made 12 of their 13 shots from the charity stripe. They needed nearly every one.

The Hurricanes have been wildly inconsistent from the line this season. Miami is 315 in the country shooting 66.6 percent from the line and 11th in the ACC at a slightly better 69.9 percent from the line in conference play.
