Miami Hurricanes begin four game road trip at Central Florida

Evan McKendry started game two and was locked in a pitchers duel with Notre Dame’s Tommy Sheehan. McKendry lasted six innings allowed two hits with two walks and 12 strikeouts. Frankie Bartow pitched the final three innings for his first save of the season. Bartow allowed four hits one walk and struck out two.

The game was tight until the seventh when Miami opened it up with three in the seventh and five in the eight to win 9-0. Tony Jenkins and Willy Escala both contributed two hits and two RBIs. Tackett also had two hits.

After taking a 1-0 lead against Notre Dame in the first inning, the Fighting Irish scored four runs over the next three innings to push ahead. Miami took the lead with a four run bottom of the fourth. Notre Dame tied the game in the seventh. They won it with a four run tenth inning.

Gregory Veliz lasted four innings allowing three hits, four runs, two earned with one walk and eight strikeouts. Andrew Cabezas took the loss for Miami. He allowed four runs, three earned in 3.2 innings. He dropped to 0-2 on the season. Tackett had another two hit game and backup catcher Issac Quinones also had two hits.

Daniel Federman will replace Michael Mediavilla for the start against Central Florida. Federman is 0-1 with a 1.62 ERA and 1.67 batting average against this season.  Mediavilla is 0-2 with a 5.19 ERA this season. Federman and Mediavilla both pitched out of the bullpen on Sunday.
