Miami was not as good as their 10-0 start. None of the teams they beat in their hot start to the season played in the NCAA Tournament.
The Hurricanes didn’t defeat an NCAA Tournament team until the 15th game of the season. That was a home victory over Florida State. They also had a bad road loss at Georgia Tech in the second game of the ACC Schedule.
Walker and Brown were also not playing well early in the season. Despite leading the team in rebounding and assists Brown’s shooting numbers were down significantly from last season.
As a freshman, Brown shot 45.9 percent from the field, 34.7 percent on threes and 74.4 percent from the free throw line. Those numbers dropped to 41.5, 26.7 and 62.9 percent this season.
Miami was 14-5 with Brown in the lineup. In the five losses, Brown averaged 10.2 Points Per Game, 7.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists. His shooting was abysmal.
Brown shot 34.6 percent from the floor, 23.5 percent on threes and 61.1 percent from the free throw line in the Hurricanes five losses with him in the lineup. He also missed a December game against Boston University.
Brown and Walker never seemed to develop a chemistry. They scored in double figures in only five of the 19 games they played together.
