Miami Hurricanes win last game of series at Duke, finish 2-2 this week

Miami dropped to 8-9 on Friday night when Duke broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth with two runs. The Hurricanes cut the lead in half with a run in the seventh but couldn’t get closer.

Griffin Conine the son of Marlins great Jeff tormented the Hurricanes on Friday and Saturday. He went three-for-six with three runs scored and two RBIs in the Blue Devils victories.

Jeb Bargfeldt had his worst outing of the season on Friday night. He went six innings allowed four runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Bartow pitched two scoreless innings to close the game out. Willy Escala and Burns had two hits each for Miami.

Adam Laskey shut down Miami over six innings. He allowed six hits, three runs, two earned with no walks and six strikeouts. Two relievers pitched the final three innings to close the game out. Four of the Blue Devils six hits on Friday night came from the top three hitters in the order.

On Saturday night Duke got off to a three to nothing lead in the bottom of the first inning off of Evan McKendry. McKendry settled down the rest of the way. Those were the only runs he allowed. He gave up seven hits, three runs, three earned with no walks and five strikeouts in seven innings. McKendry has been outstanding this season.

Mitch Stallings was better for the Blue Devils. He pitched eight innings, allowing one run, one earned on five hits with three walks and eight strikeouts. Jack Labosky’s two-run home run in the first stretched Duke’s lead to 3-0. Conine hit a home run in the eighth off of Cook. Labosky did double duty by pitching the ninth for his third save.
