Miami Hurricanes win last game of series at Duke, finish 2-2 this week

Freddy Zamora had two hits for Miami in the loss. Miami struck out ten times in the loss. Duke is 16-4 overall, 4-2 in the ACC after the 2-1 weekend. The Hurricanes are 9-10, 3-3.

On Wednesday night Miami got one of its biggest wins of the season. The Hurricanes won 4-3 at number 23 Central Florida.

Miami shuffled its rotation in the midweek outing. Michael Mediavilla who had been struggling came out of the rotation. Freshman Daniel Federman got his first career start.  Federman pitched five innings, allowing three runs, one earned on three hits, two walks and five strikeouts.

Miami got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning. The Knights answered and scored two in the bottom of the second to take the lead. Miami tied the score in the fourth when Escala singled in Zamora and Remy Gonzalez. The Hurricanes took the lead for good in the sixth when an Isaac Quinones groundout scored Zamora.

Bartow, Cabezas and Hammond shutout Central Florida over the final four innings to preserve Miami’s victory. Hammond earned his second save by pitching the ninth.

Next game: Miami will play the second of a three-game midweek series against Florida Atlantic at home on Wednesday night. The Hurricanes lost last month 5-4 in Boca Raton. The teams will meet for the final time on April 4 at Mark Light Field.
