Mark Richt comments after day one of Miami Hurricanes Spring Practice
"Then you have a couple of young guys who are really trying to figure out what’s up. You can tell their condition isn’t just what it should be, but good thing they’ve been here for a month and a half or two months to give themselves a chance. I was pleased with the Day 1, for sure.”"
Quarterback is on the minds of most in the media and the fanbase. Richt spoke about how his signal callers performed today and the expectations for the position. Starter Malik Rosier led Miami to their best season in 14 years but struggled in the season-ending three-game losing streak.
Rosier completed only 44.9 percent of his passes with three touchdowns, five interceptions for a total of 500 yards in the last three games of the season. His accuracy is what needs the most work.
In addition to the season-ending losses, Rosier completed less than 50 percent of his passes against Florida State and North Carolina last season. Richt spoke about the performances of his quarterbacks on day one of spring practice.
"“We install a certain amount of plays against the coverages that we know we’ll see…How do they react? How do they take it from the meeting room to the field? One part of it is a mental process, to be able to throw to the right guy at the right time. The other part of it is, can you hit your target when you’re going to the right guy? Or, if everybody is covered, what do you do now? Do you scramble? Do you throw the ball out of bounds? Do you do something safe, like you’d normally do in a game? Sometimes I learn more from a play that doesn’t have much chance of success and the guy not trying to make something out of nothing. There’s a lot of things we can learn.”"
