Rousseau was a three-star recruit and ranked as the 22nd defensive end in the country.  Rousseau is extremely athletic. He played defensive end, safety and wide receiver in high school.

There will be opportunities for Rousseau to display his talent since Miami lost three defensive ends this offseason. Defensive ends Chad Thomas and Trent Harris graduated and freshman DJ Johnson announced that he would transfer to Oregon.

Harris and Thomas were incredibly impactful in 2017. Harris led the team with 8.5 sacks. His 10.5 tackles for loss were tied for fourth on the team. Thomas led the team with 12.5 sacks and was third on the team in tackles for loss with 4.5.

Joe Jackson, Demetrius Jackson, rising sophomore Jonathan Garvin and Scott Patchan are the returning defensive ends for the Miami Hurricanes. Joe Jackson finished the season with 50 tackles, 6.5 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss.

Demetrius Jackson’s season was cut short after he sustained a season-ending knee injury in the eighth game of the season against Virginia Tech. He finished the season with 18 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 7.5 tackles for loss and one interception.

Because of Demetrius Jackson’s knee injury, it is not known how much he will participate in spring practice if at all. Garvin finished his freshman season with nine tackles, two sacks and three tackles for loss.

Patchan came to Miami in 2015 as a defensive end and sustained a season-ending injury in 2016. He moved to tight end in 2017 in an attempt to gain more playing time. Patchan will transition back to defensive end for the 2018 season.
