The Miami Hurricanes are an NCAA Tournament good luck charm
Nova’s victory over UNC was lauded by many as the best NCAA Tournament game in history. Certainly the best Championship game. A Marcus Paige three-point shot tied the game with 4.7 seconds remaining. Nova answered when Kris Jenkins three-pointer won it at the buzzer.
Jay Wright’s team led 43-37 at halftime before outscoring the Hurricanes 49-32 in the second half. Miami lost despite shooting 43 percent from the field. As they did throughout that season the Hurricanes backcourt of Sheldon McClellan and Angel Rodriguez carried the Hurricanes in the game against Nova.

Last season the Hurricanes were eliminated by North Carolina in the ACC Tournament. Like this year North Carolina beat the Hurricanes after losing to them in the regular season. The Hurricanes won the regular season matchup 77-62 at the Watsco Center.
The game against UNC in the ACC Tournament in 2017 was the Tar Heels springboard to the National Championship. Top-Seeded North Carolina pounded Miami 78-53 in the quarterfinals. They were the team that had the double bye. They were upset by eventual conference tournament champion Duke in the quarterfinals.
North Carolina entered the NCAA Tournament 27-7 and earned the number one seed in the South Region. They were sent to Greenville South Carolina where they defeated Texas Southern and Arkansas to advance to the Regional in Memphis.
From there North Carolina easily defeated Butler in the Sweet 16. That set up a showdown with Kentucky in the Regional Final. It took a Luke Maye jumper with under a second remaining to send the Tar Heels to the Final Four.
