Miami Hurricanes recruit named Florida Mr. Basketball
Carey is a virtual lock to become the first McDonald’s All-American since current Hurricane Dewan Huell played in the game in 2016. Miami has not signed any recruits for the 2018-19 season.
Carey would be the highest ranked player Miami has ever signed. Freshman Lonnie Walker currently holds that distinction. He was 16th in the class of 2017.
If the Hurricanes are fortunate enough to sign Carey he is a lock for a one and done player if the NBA doesn’t change the rules before the 2020 Draft. USA Today wrote him up as part of five players you’ll definitely see in next year’s McDonald’s All-America Game.
"Vernon Carey Jr., University School (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), F College: Undecided Why he’ll make it: Carey is a matchup nightmare. At 6-10 he ignites fast breaks off of rebounds and can take it coast-to-coast. He’s also got an efficient stroke from the arc and dominates in the paint on both ends of the floor."
Miami will have two Seniors to replace after the 2019 season. They will lose at least Center Ebuka Izundu and swingman Anthony Lawrence Jr. There is also a possibility they could lose Huell to the NBA Draft after his Junior season next year.

Sophomore guard Bruce Brown declared for the NBA Draft but did not sign with an agent. Walker has yet to make a decision but most expect him to declare for the draft. He is expected to be selected between 10th and 20th in June’s Draft.
