Miami Hurricanes finish a winless week

Saturday night Georgia Tech got going a little later.  They exploded late at the plate to completely put the game away. The opened the scoring with a four-run third, added one in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead.

Miami tried to get back into the game with two runs each in the seventh and eighth innings to get within three runs. Georgia Tech then put the game out of reach with a six-run eighth inning. For the second straight night, the Yellow Jackets tagged a Hurricanes star pitcher.

Evan McKendry had been dominant this season before facing the Yellow Jackets. In five innings McKendry allowed seven runs, six earned on nine hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Chris McMahon, Frankie Bartow and combined to give up six runs in three innings. Daniel Epstein got the final out in the eighth inning.

Georgia Tech third baseman Oscar Serratos who hit eighth went four for five with two runs scored and two RBIs. The Yellow Jackets had 14 hits and six walks in the victory. Gabe Rivera hit his first home run of the season for Miami.

Georgia Tech got on the board early again in Sunday’s series finale. The Yellow Jackets scored in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
