Ahead of Saturday’s first live scrimmage of the Spring, the Miami Hurricanes went live with tackling for the first time this Spring during Tuesday’s practice. The Hurricanes only had eight plays live before the players had to get to their classes according to Head Coach Mark Richt.

The competition this Spring has “revved” players up and caused “a little extracurricular (activity)” according to Richt. Several positions have starting spots available. A lot will be expected from the Miami Hurricanes this fall. Filling the positions from the departed players is going to be one of the keys.

Richt has come up with a points system for the offense and defense that has created a competition between the two units this Spring. The loser has to do pushups. Each unit has taken pride in defeating the other. It has created competition and made the Spring more interesting for the players.

The positions to watch on Saturday are quarterback, both lines, and the backups in the secondary. Tight end will be a hotly contested position in summer training camp.

Freshmen Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory arrive this summer. They are expected to be better than incumbent Miami Hurricanes tight ends Michael Irvin II and Brian Polendey.
