The Miami Hurricanes hope to break a five-game losing streak when they host North Carolina this weekend. Miami was swept in Atlanta against Georgia Tech last weekend.

The Miami Hurricanes lost single games against Florida Gulf Coast and Florida Atlantic in their last two midweek games. Wins against North Carolina would greatly boost Miami’s profile and RPI.

If the Miami Hurricanes are going to get into the NCAA Tournament after missing last year’s they are going to have to get things back on track this weekend. The Hurricanes have 27 games remaining with 18 at home and nine on the road plus the ACC Tournament.

After being tied with Duke for first place in ACC Coastal entering last weekend Miami dropped to a tie for third after getting swept last weekend. Duke swept their series and now leads the Coastal with a 9-3 record. Miami is 6-6 tied with Georgia Tech. North Carolina is in second with an 8-4 record.

North Carolina enters the weekend 19-10 overall. They enter the weekend with a five-game winning streak and wins in 10 of their last 11 games. The Tar Heels defeated South Carolina in Charlotte on Tuesday night and swept Wake Forest last weekend. The Tar Heels are currently 11th in the RPI.

North Carolina is near the top of the ACC in pitching and hitting. They are third in the conference with a .282 batting average and fourth with a 3.36 earned run average.

As last year Miami continues to struggle at the plate. They are 13th in the ACC with a .250 batting average. The Hurricanes pitching has been kept them in games. The UM staff has a 3.45 ERA to rank fifth in the ACC.

Injuries have hurt the Miami lineup as they did last season. Danny Reyes who was Miami’s leading hitter through the first seven games has missed the last 20 with a torn ligament in his thumb. Catcher Michael Amditis who missed all but seven games in 2017 is back after missing most of March.
