The rebuilt Miami Hurricanes defensive line has dominated their counterparts on the offensive line this spring. That was very evident during the Spring’s first scrimmage on Saturday.

Several aspects of the defensive line’s dominance this Spring were relayed by Miami Hurricanes Head Coach Mark Richt following the first scrimmage of the season. With the defense getting what was described as numerous sacks, the offensive line struggled with getting off the ball at the snap.

The line seems set from left tackle to right guard. It’s right tackle that is giving the Miami Hurricanes the most trouble. Tyree St. Louis was moved from right tackle to left tackle for the upcoming season.

George Brown has spent most of spring practice with the first team at right tackle. The starting spot at right tackle still seems open to who the starter will be.

At times on Saturday, starting center Tyler Gauthier had to move to give the offensive line a chance at stopping the first-team defense’s pass rush. Offensive line Coach Stacy Searles was not happy that they move had to be made. The defense was getting pressure with the added benefit of not having to tackle the quarterbacks on the other side.

Richt spoke to reporters from the Miami Herald and Sun Sentinel about the defense’s performance.

"“The [first-team offense] in the first half of the day had zero points and barely a first down. Defense did a great job.“There were quite a few sacks,…(tackles) got beat off the edge and it was over….In the second half the No. 1 O scored. The No. 2 O didn’t do as good.’’"
