Facing the first eight-game losing streak in program history the Miami Hurricanes defeated North Carolina 7-5 on Sunday. They salvaged the final game of the series against the Tar Heels and ended their seven-game losing streak.

The losing streak tied the Miami Hurricanes program record. The Canes lost seven games in a row twice in the 1960’s. They also ended a five-game ACC losing streak. After taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Miami spotted North Carolina a 5-1 lead before coming back.

The Tar Heels scored three in the second and two in the fifth to lead 5-1. The Miami Hurricanes scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-5 lead. The game was called after five and a half innings.

The win improves Miami’s record to 12-18. North Carolina had narrowed the score to 7-6 in the top of the sixth. When the game was called the score reverts back to the last completed full inning.

Andrew Cabezas got the win for the Miami Hurricanes despite a shaky start. He gave up five runs on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts in five innings. The hitting stars were shortstop Freddie Zamora and centerfielder Michael Burns.

Zamora went two for four with a run scored and two RBIs. Burns was two for two with a run scored and three RBIs.  Burns triple cleared the bases and gave Miami a 5-4 lead.
